Digest the Past, Step into the Present – a retreat of yoga and discovery with Joey Robinson
Blending practical philosophy, dynamic movement and stillness, this retreat is a chance to take another step in the process of solidifying your life on the ground of who you are.
The dynamic MORNING PRACTICES dive deeply into the body, focusing on the sequences and alignment needed to build strength and open the body. Each practice has an individual focus, yet collectively represent one experience.
– Monday, STANDING POSES and HIP-OPENERS
– Tuesday, FORWARD BENDS and TWISTS
– Wednesday, BACKBENDS
– Thursday, INVERSIONS
– Friday, SHOULDERS and NECK
The AFTERNOON SESSIONS are home to the retreat’s ‘big ideas’. These sessions place asana practice within a larger narrative of growth and broaden our vision of what yoga is really about. Themes include:
– The powers of the self
– The stages and struggles of our evolutionary journey
– Relationships and communication
– Uncovering our purpose
– Open to Grace
While ambitious, these topics are engaged in a clear and simple language and explored through discussion, journaling and other interactive methods. The goal of these sessions is NOT to present a philosophical system, but to create a space for re-imagining the issues and problems of everyday life in ways that accelerate our growth.
If the morning practices explore what we can achieve through the will and intellect, the EVENING PRACTICES explore what can be achieved when let go of the need to achieve anything and move into dialogue with the breath, sensation and NOW.

About Joey
Inspired by many styles, Joey teaches an alignment-based Hatha Yoga, designed to give students a deeper connection to, and freedom within, their bodies. In doing so, he hopes to help students cultivate an awareness of what they are and invite them to explore the vast potential of what they might become.
Since 2005, he has trained with numerous teachers in the US, Europe, and India, exploring a variety of yoga styles and approaches to health and movement. These include Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Anusara Yoga™, Kripalu Yoga, Self-Awakening Yoga™ (certified), Feldenkrais, Voice & Movement Therapy, and meditation. He is deeply grateful to all his teachers, to all his struggles, and to the abundance and joy yoga has brought to his life.
What does Joey teach
In his classes, Joey teaches a variety of movement techniques designed to refine your ability to put the different pieces of the body together or to take them part.
But becoming skilled at integrating or differentiating movement requires more than technique; it also requires a refined capacity to pay attention to your body and its sensations. The rewards of this practice are vast: the more we PAY ATTENTION, the more we SEE, and if we step into this process, it becomes evolutionary, expanding to transform our lives and the relationships that sustain them.
The deeper aspects of his teaching explore how we can understand the various stages and struggles of this process. Due to their scope, these themes are reserved for workshops, retreats and private lessons.

By Car
Located on the Tyrolean Fernpass, in the north-west of Austria, close to the German border the AlpenRetreat is easily reached via the Fernpassstrasse B179 (E532).
At the top of the Fernpass (Fernpasshöhe) there is a petrol station named "Dolle". Opposite of it on the other side of the street is a roadside restaurant (Fernpaß Rast), a red building, and a big yellow building (the former Fernpass hotel). Follow the small street between the restaurant and the yellow house for about 200m and you have reached the AlpenRetreat.
Places connected by the Fernpassstraße
Füssen – Reutte – Heiterwang – Lermooser Tunnel – Fernpass (AlpenRetreat) – Nassereith. At the border-tunnel in Füssen the Fernpassstrasse connects with the federal highway 310 and the A 7. In Nassereith it merges into the B 189 along the Inntal (Inn valley) in direction south-east towards Telfs and in south-west direction towards Imst.
In winter it is compulsory in Austria to have winter tires on your car. Although the Fernpassstrasse is well maintained and therefore easily accessible, sometimes the streets can still be covered in snow. In exceptional cases snow chains may be required (very rarely). If you are coming with a rental car, make sure it is equipped with winter tires (the rental company is obliged to provide this).
