Qigong – Winter -The Rhythm of Water
In this Weekend Workshop we will be using different energy practices such as qigong, yoga, meditation and Energy Medicine to balance our Water Element. This will be a fun, informative weekend suitable for everybody
A little bit about the Water Element
Winter holds the energy of the water element. It teaches us to connect to our natural rhythms and the rhythms of nature. It teaches us to slow down, surrender, and tune in to our body’s needs for stillness, silence, and rest
It’s a time of connecting, of sitting around the fire with a mug of hot cocoa and good fiends. Of deep and meaningful conversations. Of good books, early nights and lazy mornings. It’s a time of peace and stillness, of rest and restoration. A time to conserve and gather our energies and our ideas and to reconnect with our inner being.
Water/Winter is full yin, the feminine , it is the energy of our Womb chakra, it is rebirth, the element of emotion and subconscious, of purification, intuition, mysteries of the self, compassion and family. It is the element that feeds our psychic ability.
Water/Winter is the time of the year when our inner depths and inner darkness is most accessible to us. It is the place where we are often afraid to journey. When we recognize and reconnect this darkness we release great potential for healing, renewal and growth!
The emotions associated with the water element are fear and courage
When our Water Element is in balance we are comfortable in our bodies and environment, we are wise, at ease, peaceful, gentle, loving, compassionate, caring and enthusiastic. We experience an innate joy of being which is not dependant on external factors. We are spontaneous and are able to flow with any situation, we also possess the courage, willpower and determination to see though any ideas and plans we may have
When our water element is out of balance we can feel uncomfortable in our own skin, out of tune with ourselves, we lack well being, we can become negative, suspicious, fearful. We can also lack willpower, courage and determination, and can feel ‘stuck’ or ‘frozen’ and unable to move forward.
So…Water is the spark of an idea, the seed of a new plan, the very essence of all possibilities . It is the gathering of our energies, our courage and our determination which allows us to burst forth in Spring refreshed, renewed and ready for action!

By Car
Located on the Tyrolean Fernpass, in the north-west of Austria, close to the German border the AlpenRetreat is easily reached via the Fernpassstrasse B179 (E532).
At the top of the Fernpass (Fernpasshöhe) there is a petrol station named "Dolle". Opposite of it on the other side of the street is a roadside restaurant (Fernpaß Rast), a red building, and a big yellow building (the former Fernpass hotel). Follow the small street between the restaurant and the yellow house for about 200m and you have reached the AlpenRetreat.
Places connected by the Fernpassstraße
Füssen – Reutte – Heiterwang – Lermooser Tunnel – Fernpass (AlpenRetreat) – Nassereith. At the border-tunnel in Füssen the Fernpassstrasse connects with the federal highway 310 and the A 7. In Nassereith it merges into the B 189 along the Inntal (Inn valley) in direction south-east towards Telfs and in south-west direction towards Imst.
In winter it is compulsory in Austria to have winter tires on your car. Although the Fernpassstrasse is well maintained and therefore easily accessible, sometimes the streets can still be covered in snow. In exceptional cases snow chains may be required (very rarely). If you are coming with a rental car, make sure it is equipped with winter tires (the rental company is obliged to provide this).
