Vipassana Lite Meditation Retreat with Martin Pack

Vipassana Lite is a lighter version or an introduction to Insight Meditation which is normally a two or three week intensive course.

This one week course is designed for those who are interested in Meditation but do not wish for the intensive course. (The meaning of Vipassana is to see clearly, to see beyond, to see the true nature of things). The technique will help insights to arise allowing inner wisdom to bear fruit.
The course is designed to help bring you back into the present moment by using mindfulness and awareness. During the course you will receive tools to help support yourself and your loved ones in your daily life. A technique you can take away and use anywhere, anytime.
It will introduce you to a basic understanding yet some fundamentals of Buddhism. The course will gently guide you into a walking and sitting meditation technique.

No prior knowledge or experience is required for this course.  And even those with some physical difficulties can still take part.

Where the intensive course is completely silent, here there will be opportunities when talking is permitted.  But you will experience the power of silence and for those who would wish to go on and take part in the intensive course, this will give you a taste of what to expect.  There will also be some free time for yourselves.

To get the most from the course we do ask you to abide by the five Precepts (Rules)

  1. Refrain from Killing (any insects, spiders etc,) with intention.
  2. Refrain from stealing or taking what is not been offered to you.
  3. Refrain from any sexual conduct, with yourself or others.
  4. Refrain from telling lies, cursing or bragging.
  5. Refrain from taking any intoxicants. (Drugs or Alcohol)

Also we ask that you refrain from using mobile phones.

The aim here is not to achieve, but just to be, to be simple, to be lite.  The power of simplifying what is here and now can help you step out of your thoughts and judgments, your anger, doubts and frustrations and see them for what they truly are. Apart from group sessions there will also be opportunities for you to practice alone.

White clothing is advised but not essential.

About the Teacher

Vipassana-Meditation-Teacher-AlpenRetreat-Martin-PackMartin Pack began his daily meditation practice when he was 15 years old, trying different techniques.

It was not until he completed his first Vipassana Course in Thailand, that he began to really understand the true meaning of meditation and the impact and value it had on his life. After some years of assisting in Thailand and Israel, Martin began teaching full Vipassana courses in Northern Thailand 2008/2009. Since that time he has taught in a number of different countries including UK, Holland, France, Italy, Austria, Canada, Greece and Israel.

Martin has a unique ability to help the students through their challenges with his compassion, characteristic humour and deep understanding of the process they are going through.

He continues to be impressed by the value and transformational effects Vipassana has, not only on his life, but also the lives of other practitioners. Many of them return to his retreats and he can see clear changes of how they were before and how they are now. The way they overcome life’s difficulties is truly inspiring.

By Car

Located on the Tyrolean Fernpass, in the north-west of Austria, close to the German border the AlpenRetreat is easily reached via the Fernpassstrasse B179 (E532).
At the top of the Fernpass (Fernpasshöhe) there is a petrol station named "Dolle". Opposite of it on the other side of the street is a roadside restaurant (Fernpaß Rast), a red building, and a big yellow building (the former Fernpass hotel). Follow the small street between the restaurant and the yellow house for about 200m and you have reached the AlpenRetreat.

Places connected by the Fernpassstraße
Füssen – Reutte – Heiterwang – Lermooser Tunnel – Fernpass (AlpenRetreat) – Nassereith. At the border-tunnel in Füssen the Fernpassstrasse connects with the federal highway 310 and the A 7. In Nassereith it merges into the B 189 along the Inntal (Inn valley) in direction south-east towards Telfs and in south-west direction towards Imst.

In winter it is compulsory in Austria to have winter tires on your car. Although the Fernpassstrasse is well maintained and therefore easily accessible, sometimes the streets can still be covered in snow. In exceptional cases snow chains may be required (very rarely). If you are coming with a rental car, make sure it is equipped with winter tires (the rental company is obliged to provide this).
