“Winter sport and Yoga – Acceleration on the slope deceleration in the AlpenRetreat“

The beautiful nature of the tyrolean alps is the ideal place to leave all the stress and worries of daily life behind you und find again your inner stillness that brings you your wellbeing. Every human strives to be happy. Yoga helps us to rediscover the present moment und find ourselves in it. The combination of having fun in the snow and yoga is the perfect mix to decelerate.

On 4 days of this week, according to weather, the abilities and wishes of the group, the fitting ski resort will be picked. The joy that we feel during wintersport is even enhanced through the meditative and balanced yoga practise that we do. On the other days the afternoon is free for your own adventures.

The yoga session always starts with a short block of theory where the basics of a traditional yoga practice are explained. We practice Meditation, Hatha Yoga, Pranayama and deep relaxation. These tools help us to discover a new awareness of body, mind and emotions.
A short sentence describes very well the motto of the yoga that we do together: “It is not important to touch your toes in yoga but what you learn on the way down.” Because of that this yoga style is equally applicable for beginners or advanced practicioners. Everybody descides for themself who deep they want to go in there practice.
Of course the effects of yoga are equally strengthening and balancing for the entire body, the skeleton, the muscles, the respiratory- and the nervous system. A perfect preperation for a lighthearted day in the snow.

In the later afternoon we integrate the experiences of the day, relax the muscles and mind with a very chilled out yoga session.

After dinner you have the choice either to see an interesting documentary or just enjoy yourself.

Questions and different subjects asked by the participants can be integrated in the course if it is aline with the group.
The goal of the course is that in the end you will be able to make up your own yoga programm which you can then practice at home on your own.

The Course Instructor

Jan Tomas is a qualified ski- and snowboard instructor and through his love for winter sports even the most advanced riders can still learn from him. In summer 2005 Jan discovered for himself the vast spectrum of yoga and meditation and since then is constantly growing in his daily practice. Through the many years of intense practice and many retreats in ashrams and monasteries around the world he dove deeper and deeper into the world of meditation and yoga and gained a profound understanding about body, mind, psyche and selfreflection.
Since spring 2009 he started doing courses and since then inspires like minded people and helps them in their own practice.

By Car

Located on the Tyrolean Fernpass, in the north-west of Austria, close to the German border the AlpenRetreat is easily reached via the Fernpassstrasse B179 (E532).
At the top of the Fernpass (Fernpasshöhe) there is a petrol station named "Dolle". Opposite of it on the other side of the street is a roadside restaurant (Fernpaß Rast), a red building, and a big yellow building (the former Fernpass hotel). Follow the small street between the restaurant and the yellow house for about 200m and you have reached the AlpenRetreat.

Places connected by the Fernpassstraße
Füssen – Reutte – Heiterwang – Lermooser Tunnel – Fernpass (AlpenRetreat) – Nassereith. At the border-tunnel in Füssen the Fernpassstrasse connects with the federal highway 310 and the A 7. In Nassereith it merges into the B 189 along the Inntal (Inn valley) in direction south-east towards Telfs and in south-west direction towards Imst.

In winter it is compulsory in Austria to have winter tires on your car. Although the Fernpassstrasse is well maintained and therefore easily accessible, sometimes the streets can still be covered in snow. In exceptional cases snow chains may be required (very rarely). If you are coming with a rental car, make sure it is equipped with winter tires (the rental company is obliged to provide this).
